500L Two-Vessel Steam-Heated Brewhouse: Who Is It For?

If you're planning a small brewery, a 500L brewhouse can be a very practical choice.

This system uses two vessels: a Mash/Lauter Tun and a Kettle/Whirlpool. Steam heating is provided by a small steam boiler, usually around 50 kg/h, using electric or gas heating.

For this size, manual control is still the most common option. A PID or PLC control panel can also be added if the customer wants more automation.

So who is a 500L system suitable for?

It can work for a small craft brewery, brewpub, bar, restaurant, or a new brewery starting with a reasonable investment.

And here is something many people misunderstand:

A 500L brewhouse does not mean you can only produce 500L of beer.

If you brew twice a day, one brew can produce around 1,000L per day. In theory, the monthly production could become very high.

But we don’t normally recommend designing a brewery around the maximum theoretical output.

Why?

Because brewing twice every day means much more work. You also need more fermentation tanks, more floor space, more cleaning and more cooling capacity.

For many small breweries, brewing one batch per day, five days a week, is already a serious workload.

If your production target is much higher, it often makes more sense to choose a larger brewhouse instead of simply increasing brewing frequency.

The goal isn’t to make the biggest possible brewery.

The goal is to build a brewery that fits your production, budget, people and space.

If you’re considering a 500L brewery, send us your target production and available space. We can help you decide whether 500L is the right size.
